redefine "new replies..."?

On aggravation here is that I would be looking at a "new reply", but only look at it and not reply, but then later, after thinking about the poster's message, might think of an appropois reply. Then the thread no longer shows up under "new replies..." and my locating the post to which I might like to reply is difficult.

Is it possible to keep a thread's "newness" current until an item is replied to by you?

This might be difficult, Jim, but still you might consider it.

Something like that would require a a total rewrite of not only the message center but would entail changing variables, modules and the database. This is way above my capabilities.   Unfortunately, I don't have a better answer for you.

The "new reply" thing as is still great and sure is a lot better than anything I had before
